Professional Conduct
The professional standards every REPS UAE member is bound by — protecting clients, upholding the industry, and maintaining public trust.
About this Code
This Code is a mandatory list of professional expectations for every REPS UAE member. It is not exhaustive and must be read together with the prevailing laws of the UAE. All members agree to uphold it upon registration and at each annual renewal. Failure to comply may result in sanctions, including suspension, revocation, or removal from the register.
Good Professional Practice
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Work within the limits of your competence and the REPS UAE Scope of Practice
- Maintain and extend your knowledge and skills through continuing professional development consistent with current evidence
- Assess each client's needs and risks through appropriate pre-exercise screening
- Evaluate screening results and client objectives when designing or recommending any programme
- Refer a client to another professional when their needs fall outside your scope or competence
- Keep complete, accurate records of services, screening, progress, and referrals
- Hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance covering all activities undertaken
Working with Clients
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Be courteous, respectful, compassionate, and honest with every client
- Respect each client's privacy and right to confidentiality
- Obtain informed consent before releasing or exchanging health information with third parties
- Use client information carefully and only for legitimate professional purposes
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times
- Prioritise each client's health, well-being, and safety above all other considerations
- Inform clients of all costs transparently before services begin
Working with Children & Young People
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Comply with UAE child-protection laws and mandatory reporting obligations
- Consider a young person's capacity for decision-making and consent
- Be aware of age-related development and physical exercise needs
- Communicate in a way children and young people understand, and recognise the role of parents and guardians
Culturally Safe & Inclusive Practice
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Respect and show sensitivity towards the cultural diversity of the UAE community
- Treat everyone equitably regardless of age, gender, nationality, religion, or ability
- Challenge discrimination and promote inclusive practice
- Acknowledge social, economic, and cultural factors influencing health behaviour
- Maintain appropriate referral systems to improve client engagement and outcomes
Safety & Duty of Care
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Maintain participant safety at all times during professional activities
- Show appropriate duty of care and respond effectively in emergencies
- Reject the use of performance-enhancing substances and discourage their use
- Ensure adequate preparation and warm-up for all participants
- Respect and work within the physical and health limits of each participant
Public Statements & Marketing
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Avoid public statements that bring, or are likely to bring, REPS UAE or the industry into disrepute
- Only make public statements within your scope and supported by evidence-based research
- Ensure all advertising and marketing claims are truthful, accurate, and verifiable
- Obtain prior written authority before implying you speak on behalf of REPS UAE
Mentoring & Supervising
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Treat any professional or student you mentor or supervise with respect and patience
- Offer honest, objective, and constructive feedback
- Obtain client consent for student participation and respect their right to decline
- Clearly explain the scope of a student's participation to both client and student
Complaints, Investigations & Reporting
Exercise professionals commit to:
- Cooperate with any legitimate inquiry into the professional services provided
- Disclose information relevant to an investigation into your own or a colleague's conduct
- Report to REPS UAE any criminal conviction connected with your services or involving vulnerable persons
- Report if you become the subject of any criminal or civil complaint connected with your professional services
- Notify REPS UAE if your professional indemnity insurance is cancelled or not renewed

If you believe a REPS UAE member has breached this Code of Ethics, you may submit a complaint to info@repsuae.com. All complaints are treated in strict confidence.
